BITTEN LIP OR TONGUE

Slow the bleeding by using a clean rag to apply pressure to the area. Keep mouth clear of blood to prevent breathing problems and/or nausea. If the bleeding does not stop on its own, contact our Stroudsburg, PA dental office.

OBJECT CAUGHT IN TEETH

Try using floss to remove the object. If that does not work, do not dig at it. This will only cause more damage to the area. Schedule an appointment with Dr. Iglio immediately.

BROKEN, CHIPPED OR FRACTURED TOOTH

Call our office immediately. Avoid temperature extremes and chewing in the area. Take OTC pain relievers as indicated until your appointment.

KNOCKED OUT TOOTH

Call Stroudsburg Family Dental immediately. Avoid touching the root of the tooth. Gently rinse the tooth off with milk and keep it in a container of milk. The sooner you can get in to our office, the higher the chance that the tooth can be saved. Apply a cold compress to the area and take OTC pain reliever as indicated.

TOOTHACHE

There are several causes of tooth pain including cavities, fractures, or injury from clenching/grinding. It is important to determine the cause of pain to properly treat the tooth. Anti-inflammatory medications, such as ibuprofen or aspirin, can provide temporary relief. There are also pain relieving gels that are placed on the tooth. These gels contain clove oil which has been found to lessen the pain. Other home remedies such as placing a garlic clove next to the tooth, salt water rinse, and ice or heat compress, can also provide relief. If your toothache does not go away, schedule an appointment.

BROKEN JAW

A broken jaw requires immediate medical attention. Do not wait for an appointment at our office - go to the emergency room. Treatment for jaw fractures is usually performed by an oral surgeon or a physician in an emergency room. The majority of pain is caused by movement of jaw bone along the fracture. Gently stabilize the fracture with your hand or a loose bandage wrapped over your head.
